The Michael G. Foster School of Business consistently ranks among the top business schools in the United States. With more than 3,000 students across 14-degree programs, 60,000 alumni contributing to companies’ and economies’ successes around the world and based in one of America’s fastest growing and most vibrant cities, UW Foster provides an amazing opportunity for career success. You will be part of a dynamic team adding momentum to a business school already on the move to becoming better together, better tomorrow.

The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage science and technology-based companies. The program’s objective-setting process enhances the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their probability of success. CDL is run as a partnership between CDL Global (based at the University of Toronto) and the business schools of nine leading universities. The universities act as a convener of talent, bringing together mentors, world-class scientists, and economists to accelerate and enable investment. CDL is a unique not-for-profit program. It does not charge participating entrepreneurs and takes no equity in their companies. CDL-Seattle at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington will accept two cohorts of 20 deep-science companies from within and outside UW for the 2022/23 stream. CDL-Seattle will specialize in companies operating on the frontier of Advanced Manufacturing and Computational Health. Companies which have that advanced beyond the concept stage apply (at no cost to them) to participate in CDL. Once companies are selected for participation, they participate in a 9-month long program, with 5 intensive full-day sessions with CDL mentors every eight weeks. At each session they assess progress and set new short-term objectives. Mentors are typically successful entrepreneurs from the local region or broader CDL community.

For the Community in the Pacific Northwest, CDL will be an engine for the creation of massively scalable deep-science companies. Act as a bridge, drawing in the best in the Seattle entrepreneurship ecosystem to work with entrepreneurial faculty and students from across campus. It breaks down traditional silos. Accelerate the economic impact of UW innovation in the community For the University of Washington CDL will: create a forum where top researchers starting deep-technology companies have access to amazing mentors, be a place where CDL scientists technical experts and economists do research and present curated talks on emerging technologies and markets, be a magnet for top faculty and student talent, who will have front-row seats to, and immersion in, a year-long objectives based accelerator, energize faculty research through access to a unique startup dataset. All CDL company objectives and outcomes have been tracked since inception in 2012. This is a rich dataset on how companies were chosen, mentored, and subsequently performed as CDL alumni. This track record, including equity value created by each company, is available for review, analysis, and learning.
