Dan Balaban is the Executive Chair and CEO of Greengate, a leading Canadian renewable energy company. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Dan is an award-winning entrepreneur with a proven track record of successful business ventures.

Dan currently co-leads the Greengate team, which has been successfully developing precedent-setting renewable energy projects in Canada for nearly fifteen years, including the country’s largest wind and solar energy projects. To date, Greengate has developed over 1 GW of operating or in-construction renewable energy projects, representing nearly $2B of investment and generating enough sustainable energy to power more than 400,000 homes.

Prior to starting Greengate, Dan was the founder, president and CEO of Roughneck.ca, a leading provider of software solutions to the Canadian oil and gas industry. Before his tenure with Roughneck.ca, Dan was a management consultant with EY and PwC. He was a senior manager with PwC, where he was a key member of the firm’s management consulting practice.

Dan graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor’s in computer science. He spent nine years as a member of the board of the Pembina Institute, formerly chair of the Calgary JCC, formerly the national first vice president of JNF Canada, and formerly a member of the board of the Independent Power Producers Society of Alberta.

Dan has received recognition for his business and community accomplishments, named one of Canada’s Clean16 for 2015, selected as one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People in 2010 and 2013 by Alberta Venture magazine, a winner of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Prairies in 2012, and named one of Avenue magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009.
