Simon Barber, working at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, was a part of the Canadian Government team (Agriculture Canada, Environment Canada, Health Canada, Industry Canada etc.) that established Canada’s regulatory regime for genetically modified plants, including establishing a regulatory process for the, environmental, food and feed safety assessment and approval of “Plants with Novel Traits.” He went on to work at the OECD Secretariat assisting the Working Group on the Harmonisation of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology in developing various consensus documents.

Simon’s experience also includes working for EuropaBio, the European Association of Bio Industries, representing member companies in European biotechnology policy development, regulation and implementation. Simon spent the last 10 years working for Syngenta Seeds in their Regulatory department in Canada and then Singapore (Asia Pacific Region).
