Venture Analyst, CDL-Atlanta

About Us

The Creative Destruction Lab (CDL), originated at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, is one of the world’s premier seed-stage programs for massively scalable science-based ventures. The program has created more than $15 billion (US) inequity in less than nine years targeting companies that have the potential to transform our social, industrial, and economic landscape.

CDL-Atlanta is located in Atlanta, Georgia at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business. CDL-Atlanta is at the epicenter of commerce and innovation in the southeast US. Bolstered by the strength of the region’s previous successful entrepreneurs and elite researchers from across the Southeast, CDL-Atlanta supports the commercialization of ventures innovating in Commerce particularly dedicated to the retail and CPG industries. CDL-Atlanta has recently launched a new Space stream along with CDL-Paris and Toronto which will be the largest concentration of seed-stage startups in the Space industry worldwide.

The Venture Analysts will primarily support venture recruitment for the 2022/23 program year, including identifying ventures, data record management, and Venture Analysts will also support the preparation and execution of CDL sessions and events.

Job Summary

Provide professional services in support of unit management in field as specified in the particular job posting. Focus will be in a professional field such as Communications, Marketing, Customer Service, Academic Administration, Event Management, Procurement, etc. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform duties related to professional field assignment.
  • Participate in reviews for compliance with policy and governmental regulations in the field.
  • Provide input to department policies and procedures.
  • May provide input to and administer project timelines and budgets.
  • May interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Other duties may include:
  • Develop and support workflows to ensure completeness of recruitment-related data being logged by all active recruiters in the CDL customer relationship management (CRM) system (Salesforce).
  • Develop and support workflows to ensure the proper use of the CDL marketing automation platform (Pardot).
  • Support the CDL-Atlanta Team on high-priority special projects including current cohort operations, and new stream development.
  • Support, coordinate, and produce materials for key internal coordination meetings including the weekly recruitment meeting.
  • Develop and execute a strategy to identify and recruit high-quality CDL applicants focused on targeted technologies and/or domains associated with new and existing CDL-Atlanta streams.
  • Produce briefings on priority topics assigned by the CDL-Atlanta Recruitment Team including those related to recruitment, new streams, corporate and technology partnerships, and others.
  • Supports CDL administrative functions as required.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, A STEM degree, Master of Business Administration, or Bachelor’s of Commerce degree in progress or completed an asset

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

This job requires application of professional principles, processes and practices; application of regulations; utilization of basic and advanced computer applications including those specific to areas of responsibility; communication skills.

  • Work experience working with startups, technology companies, or venture capital is an asset
  • Strong analytical ability and understanding of business models and drivers of success in startups across several verticals
  • Entrepreneurial and highly motivated with a strong interest in startups and venture capital
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Passion to consistently meet or exceed performance objectives
  • Strong, team-oriented work ethic with a willingness to work independently and autonomously
  • Highly organized with strong project management experience an asset
