Alan Marco

Associate Professor, Georgia Institute of Technology

Dr. Alan C. Marco is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Chief Economist of Ocean Tomo, LLC, a leader in IP valuation and consulting. He is an economist who specializes in intellectual property, innovation and patent policy, and science and technology policy. He formerly served as the Chief Economist at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where his research focused on policy-relevant topics in intellectual property. Dr. Marco has published academic articles on the intellectual property marketplace, uncertainty in intellectual property rights, patent valuation, and high-tech mergers and litigation. He is the co-creator of www.PatentsView.org, a free and open platform for exploring and accessing high-quality patent data. He has advised and testified before a wide range of national and international organizations on topics related to IP. He serves on the board of the US IP Alliance and the Georgia IP Alliance. Dr. Marco earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California-Berkeley and his B.A. in mathematics and economics from Skidmore College.
