Mike is an operating partner with the private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe providing advice on healthcare service and technology acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic investors. He is also founder of Proponent an international, nimble team of advisors united on the common mission of wanting to significantly better human lives through work in healthcare and adjacent verticals, such as sustainable sourcing and sanitation.
He led Providence strategy and operations for 22 years retiring as President in 2020. Providence achieved unprecedented growth during Mike’s tenure, going from a $2 billion organization to $25 billion today. Mike was the architect behind a contiguous market growth strategy that grew to over 50 hospitals, 1,000 ambulatory & senior centers, 12,000 physicians, and 125,000 caregivers. Mike’s leadership and passion for innovation across clinical services, technology solutions, consumer experience, population health, talent development, affordability for all, and local community service were key elements of his success.
