CDL-Seattle is located at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington (UW). The UW is one of the top public research universities in the world with annual research expenditures exceeding $2 billion. Its history of technology development includes pioneering bone marrow transplants, modern kidney dialysis, Doppler and handheld ultrasound, the hepatitis B vaccine, computational protein design, immunotherapy, CAR-T, and jet airliners.
CDL-Seattle focuses on ventures operating at the frontier of Advanced Manufacturing and Computational Health. Reflecting the strengths of the Pacific Northwest, the Advanced Manufacturing stream supports companies developing transformational technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, industrial/physical AI, advanced materials, and next-generation hardware systems. The Computational Health stream focuses on ventures applying artificial intelligence, computational biology, and data science to improve healthcare delivery, diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomedical discovery.
Seattle’s innovation economy offers a uniquely collaborative environment for deep-tech entrepreneurship. The region is home to globally recognized organizations including Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, Blue Origin, Paccar, Allen Institute for AI (AI2), Fred Hutch Cancer Center, and Institute for Protein Design. Together, these institutions form a powerful ecosystem spanning artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotics, biotechnology, aerospace, and translational medicine.
At the center of this research-intensive ecosystem sits the Foster School of Business, which combines rigorous academic research with deep connections to industry and entrepreneurship. By providing experiential learning opportunities, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and access to one of the country’s strongest innovation economies, Foster and the broader UW ecosystem offer exceptional opportunities for founders building globally significant companies grounded in science, engineering, and technology.
