Augment Biologics
Glycosylation, the attachment of sugar molecules to proteins, is a complex but critical process in drug development, as its variability can significantly affect the safety, efficacy, and stability of therapeutic proteins, making precise and consistent control a manufacturing challenge. Augment Biologics is a platform-enabled therapeutics company with a proprietary glycoengineering platform, GlycoTemplating, that genetically encodes glycosylation, transforming glycoengineering from a manufacturing challenge to a drug design opportunity. The company is targeting high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a blood-derived therapy used to treat various autoimmune, inflammatory, and immunodeficiency conditions, which is often unavailable as a therapeutic due its reliance on a specific but hard-to-manufacture glycan, sialic acid. Augment’s technology can make high-sialic acid antibodies manufacturable at commercially viable costs, increasing accessibility to high-dose IVIG biologics and addressing underserved patients in the autoimmune space.
