Shahram Tafazoli is an inventor, entrepreneur, mentor, and investor in technology and sustainability. He received all his degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He holds a PhD degree from University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada and master’s and undergraduate degrees from Sharif University of Technology in Iran. After graduating from UBC in 1997, he started a one-man technology consulting company which evolved to Motion Metrics International Corp. The company, headquartered in Vancouver, grew to 123 employees with 5 international offices and was sold to the WEIR Group in December 2021. WEIR Motion Metrics specializes in design and development of rugged machine vision and AI solutions for the mining industry and today has more than 160 employees in Canada and in its offices around the globe. Shahram served as Chief of AI for WEIR Motion Metrics until April 2024. He holds an adjunct professorship position with UBC and has offered courses in robotics, control systems, and digital signal processing. In Feb 2022, he founded Fold36 Capital with the vision of investing in game-changing technology ventures with positive impact on humanity. Shahram has co-authored many patents over the years. He considers himself a life-long learner.
