Pain Coach is building software that enables physicians to personalize their patients’ prescriptions of opioids after orthopedic surgery. Despite increasing regulations, opioid medications continue to be a mainstay of orthopedic postoperative pain control. Leaving patients to navigate their pain at home with these drugs can result in poor outcomes and increases in health system burden, including returns to the emergency department. Pain Coach supports patients at risk for addiction by providing guidance for post-operative opioids and supports physicians with individualized plans to identify where opioid tapering plans would be helpful to facilitate better patient outcomes and ease the burden on the healthcare system.
