Deborah Merril

Deb Merril is a seasoned energy executive with over 25 years of leadership experience, with a consistent track record of building high-growth businesses in rapidly evolving, regulated, and technology-disrupted sectors. Currently President of bp Energy Retail Company, LLC, Deb leads one of the largest competitive energy suppliers in the U.S. Since taking the helm in 2019, she has led a comprehensive strategic overhaul that propelled the company from the fifth to the third largest C&I supplier in its markets while significantly improving profitability.

Earlier in her career, Deb co-founded Just Energy LP, a startup that was acquired for $34M, and later served as President and Co-CEO of the $3.8B publicly traded parent company, Just Energy (NYSE/TSX). There, she led global expansion into the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Japan. Deb currently serves as an Advisor to Energy Transition Ventures and has held prior board roles at Just Energy and smart thermostat innovator ecobee (acquired by Generac Holdings). She holds a BA from the College of Wooster and an MBA from Texas A&M University.
