[Toronto, ON – March 11, 2026] Hatch, a global leader in engineering, project delivery and professional services for the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors, has joined the CDL Minerals program as its newest corporate partner, bringing deep expertise in mineral processing, metallurgical engineering, and large-scale mine development to science-based ventures navigating the complex path from breakthrough to commercial deployment.
Hatch joins founding partners Vale, BHP, and Rio Tinto, alongside corporate partners Seequent, Fasken, GeologicAI, and evōk Innovations in supporting CDL Minerals’ mission to accelerate technologies for exploration, processing, and decarbonization.
With 11,000 employees and experience in over 150 countries, Hatch delivers projects from copper processing facilities in Chile to lithium extraction operations in Australia. This operational experience across real-world mining environments provides CDL ventures with the technical and commercial insights required to scale emerging technologies in an industry where deployment cycles span years and capital requirements are substantial.
As a corporate partner, Hatch will contribute mentors with expertise in mineral processing, mine design, and project economics—critical capabilities as CDL Minerals ventures navigate technical validation and pilot deployment. Hatch’s involvement reflects the program’s focus on connecting breakthrough technologies with the operational expertise required to scale across the mining value chain, from exploration and extraction through processing and environmental restoration.
“At Hatch, we’re committed to tackling some of the world’s toughest challenges, and this partnership is very much aligned with that,” said Tina Armstrong, global managing director, Metals at Hatch. “Working with CDL Minerals supports our efforts to confront critical issues in the mining industry with meaningful, practical innovation. We’re proud to support the mission of turning scientific excellence into solutions that lead to a materially better world.”
CDL Minerals launched in 2023 at CDL-Vancouver (Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia) and expanded to CDL-London at Imperial College in 2024 with founding partner Rio Tinto. Through its nine-month objectives-based program, science-based ventures work with mentors who have built and scaled mining technology companies, gaining the pattern recognition required to navigate technical validation, pilot deployment, and commercial partnerships.
“Innovation in mining requires both technical ambition and operational credibility,” said Sonia Sennik, CEO at Creative Destruction Lab. “By bringing Hatch into the CDL Minerals network, we are strengthening the bridge between early-stage science and large-scale project execution. That alignment is essential for ventures moving from pilot to production.”
Applications for the next CDL Minerals cohort open April 2, 2026. Science-based ventures developing transformative technologies in mining and resource innovation are encouraged to apply at creativedestructionlab.com/apply.
