4D Surgical is developing an image-guided robotic system that enables precise and efficient neurosurgical access to superficial and deep brain structures. They have developed a novel electromagnetic actuator and robotic technologies that enable neurosurgical robots and neuroimaging with MRI to be used simultaneously for precision guidance during minimally invasive surgeries. Standard neurosurgical procedures rely on pretreatment imaging, which can be outdated due to real-time brain deformations caused by surgical tools. The 4D surgical product enables real-time volumetric measuring, quantification, and correction for the shifting of critical structures during surgery, leading to more accuracy and better outcomes.
