Jay Hill is an advisor, mentor and investor primarily in the health care and medical device space. He is a Strategic Advisor to the Office of Business Partnerships at UW-Madison SMPH, as well as an advisor and mentor to several startups, including through mHub, Milwaukee Venture Partners (MVP), and CDL-Madison. He is a member of MVP and an LP in the mHub fund.
Jay retired early in 2025 as VP, Advanced Technology for GE HealthCare, a ~$20 billion global leader in patient monitoring, imaging, pharmaceutical diagnostics, and digital capabilities. In this capacity he led corporate clinical and technology research for GEHC’s global product teams. He leads the process to define and prioritize well more than $1 billion in R&D and product development programs, from artificial intelligence to future imaging and monitoring device. He also leads operations for the R&D function, the product development process, and engineering talent development, including the Edison Engineering Development Program.
Jay is engaged in advocacy and representation of the industry sector through trade and professional associations and in advocacy with state and local governments.
Prior to this, Jay was Chief Technology Office (CTO) for GE HealthCare’s Molecular Imaging and Computed Tomography business, leading research, development, engineering, programs and productivity for the largest strategic product business unit in the portfolio. He also led the hardware platforms team for GEHC Imaging as the General Manager for Imaging Hardware Platforms, driving common subsystem development for several strategic business units in the Imaging portfolio.
Jay joined GE Healthcare in 2012 as CTO for the x-ray-based product portfolio and held technology leadership roles in Imaging for platforms, productivity, and product operations. He has 35+ years of engineering experience, with 31 years at GE in engineering and leadership roles in Healthcare, Security, Global Research, Industrial Systems, and Power. He has led design teams, new product development, R&D and strategy. He has had several granted patents, technical publications and conference speaking roles. He is a certified Black Belt and a DFSS Master Black Belt. Jay received his MS in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and BS in electrical engineering from SUNY Buffalo.
Jay has represented GE HealthCare GE as a member of the the MITA Executive Council; NEMA Board of Governors; and IPC (Institute for Printed Circuit, an electronics industry association). He is a former board member and chair of BioForward, Inc. and has been executive sponsor for Olin College and a member of the Olin Circle of Advisors. Jay was a founding member of the Wisconsin BioHealth Tech Hub, which was awarded Federal designation as a tech hub in 2023, and serves on that steering committee. Outside of work, Jay is an avid musician and can be found gigging around the greater Milwaukee region.
