Christopher Gooley

Senior Director, Research Systems, Microsoft

Role: Investigator

Site: CDL-Seattle

Stream: Computational Health

Currently at Microsoft Research, Gooley leads a group exploring how to make research move faster. At MSR, this ranges from building core research and frontier model training platform capabilities to developing AI-enabled experiences which keep researchers more informed and productive throughout the research journey. He is especially interested in how multi-modal scientific foundation models and AI agents will change the way research happens, especially in Healthcare and Life Sciences, and how they may accelerate both scientific discovery and real-world impact for people.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Gooley led a cross-disciplinary team at Spotify building ML systems for product hypothesis generation from the firehose of app telemetry signals. That work came about after Spotify acquired his startup, Preact, which used AI to better understand and predict customer needs and behaviors.
