Dr. Előd Gyenge is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and Theme Leader in the Clean Energy Research Centre. Prof. Gyenge’s research is focused on electrocatalysis and electrochemical engineering applied to diverse batteries, fuel cells and electrosynthesis technologies. He authored over 110 peer reviewed journal publications and has 10 patents including the patent for CO2 redox flow battery issued in 54 countries. Prof. Gyenge is the recipient of a number of recognitions including the Gould Endowment Professorship at UBC, Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellow and cross-appointed Professor at Osaka University. He is a co-founder of Agora Energy Technologies Ltd., a start-up developing the CO2 redox flow battery for large scale energy storage. Agora Energy has received a number of very competitive awards for its groundbreaking technology and business model including the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge Grand Winner among over 5,000 start-ups, and the Keeling Curve Prize for CO2 capture and utilization.
