Maike Sander

Scientific Director, Max Delbrück Center

Sander was the director of the Pediatric Diabetes Research Center at the University of California, San Diego, where she was also a professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Starting November 1, 2022, Sander serves as scientific director of the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin with an appointment as professor at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin.
Sander is an elected member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Association of American Physicians, and the American Society of Clinical Investigation. She is a recipient of the Grodsky Award of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Research Award. Since 2019, Sander has been an Einstein Visiting Fellow at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH).
