Peter Wittek

Peter Wittek is a Research Scientist exploring the synergies between machine learning, quantum physics and high-performance computing. He is the author of the book Quantum Machine Learning: What Quantum Computing Means to Data Mining. His experience ranges from working on practical applications with startups to helping to solve problems in theoretical physics. Peter holds an MSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Information Management from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and a PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. He is affiliated with ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona, Spain and the University of Borås, Borås, Sweden. He is an avid mountaineer and a salsa dancer.
In September of 2019, Rotman Assistant Professor Peter Wittek went missing during a mountaineering expedition in the Himalayas, after being caught in an avalanche. Peter was a valued member of the Rotman community and his loss is keenly felt.
Rotman and CDL are hosting a ceremony to remember Peter on Monday February 3, 2020, from 3 to 4:30PM in Desautels Hall at the Rotman School of Management. CDL community members, faculty, staff, Peter’s past students, and others across U of T who knew and admired him will be invited. This is an opportunity for us to come together to remember Peter, his unique impact on Rotman/University of Toronto, and how his work transformed the Creative Destruction Lab.
