Apply to the CDL program

For founders commercializing innovations in medical robotics, active sensing, and AI embodied hardware that bring cutting-edge technology into hospitals, homes, and communities – delivering faster, smarter, and more personalized healthcare at scale.

The Healthcare Robotics Stream at CDL-London supports ventures at the convergence of advanced robotics, active sensing, and physical AI – technologies that are fundamentally reshaping healthcare delivery.

CDL startups work with mentors to sharpen objectives, prioritize time and resources, raise capital, and engage with experts working on the frontiers of research.

Accepted startups attend up to five sessions between October and June to sharpen business objectives, prioritize time and resources, potentially raise capital, and engage with experts working on the frontiers of research.

CDL is a non-profit organization. There are no fees for participation and CDL does not take any equity. Learn more about the CDL program.

Who Should Apply?

The CDL-London Healthcare Robotics Stream is particularly suited to ventures applying engineering innovation to solve pressing challenges in care capacity, cost, quality, and access. These include robotic systems, diagnostic hardware, sensor platforms, and assistive devices. The convergence of robotics, sensing, and autonomy technologies is unlocking a broad array of commercial opportunities across the entire care pathway – from hospital to home.

The stream is purpose-built to support ventures addressing this continuum, focusing on five transformative domains outlined under the example innovation areas below, where intelligent hardware can deliver step-change improvements in care capacity, precision, and accessibility.

Example Innovation Areas

  • Medical Robotics:
      • Surgical Robotics – Autonomous or tele-operated robotic systems that enhance human capability in the operating theatre (surgical assistive devices, robotic surgeons, image-guided intervention).
      • Service Robotics – Robots automating the invisible but critical workflows in healthcare environments – logistics, sanitation, pharmacy dispensing, lab processing, etc. (non-patient-facing automation)
  • Active Sensing & MedTech: Hardware and compatible sensors capturing continuous diagnostic data in real-world settings (e.g., wearables, implantables, vital signs).
  • Restorative Hardware Systems: Robotics, CV, and bio-mimetic hardware used to restore movement or augment independence (e.g., prosthetics, exoskeletons, smart rehab).
  • In-Home Care & Ambient Intelligence: Hardware-enabled care environments utilizing Ambient Intelligence (AmI) – sensors embedded in the room (e.g., radar, smart lights) or robotic aides – to automatically detect health events, respond to emergencies, and support aging or chronic conditions without requiring wearables.

The list above is not exhaustive.

Our Mentors

CDL mentors include accomplished entrepreneurs, experienced operators, active angel and venture investors, world-leading scientists, engineers, and economists. Mentors meet every eight weeks in London to help founders set objectives over the program’s nine-month duration.

Companies accepted to the CDL Healthcare Robotics Stream benefit from access to mentors with experience scaling medical robotics platforms, navigating regulatory pathways for high-risk devices, and procurement and deployment across hospitals and health systems. These experts meet with companies periodically to evaluate their technologies, suggest improvements, and to explore formal advising engagements..
