Buffy Alegria is a financial entrepreneur who builds funds, backs founders, and rewires how healthcare venture capital works. She co-founded LOUD Collective and built LOUD Ventures from the ground up as Managing Partner.
Buffy entered venture capital to do something specific: fuse her financial expertise with her conviction that science, medicine, and healthcare, particularly for women and children, were being systematically underinvested. She acted on that conviction. She has personally invested in seven female-managed funds and built a direct portfolio of more than 11 female-led companies alongside investments in numerous diverse founders. Over 85% of her investments back companies led by at least one female, Black, Brown, and/or AAPI founder. Over 85% include a female founder in a founding or C-Suite role.
Before LOUD, Buffy co-built SteelSky Ventures from inception into one of the largest women’s health-focused funds in the country, where she constructed and managed a 16-company portfolio. Before that, she spent 16 years in banking doing the unglamorous, high-stakes work that most investors never touch: she stood up credit and risk management departments at US Bank, underwrote complex corporate deals across every industry, assessed M&A credit risk, and designed and deployed a proprietary underwriting system across a 25-state banking footprint. She didn’t just manage relationships, she built the infrastructure.
Buffy holds an MST from Oregon Graduate Institute of Science & Technology (now part of OHSU) and a BS in Psychology & Biology from Pacific University. She chairs the board of Signal Health, a clinically integrated care network serving the Yakima Valley community within MultiCare Health System. She is a strategic advisor to Pregnantech and Beyond Physician, mentors early-stage healthcare and life science founders in the Computational Health Stream at the Creative Destruction Lab, where she has served for the past four years, and sits on the HealthTech 4Medicaid Venture Council.
Previously, Buffy served 12 years on the Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital board, ending her tenure as Vice Chair, where she drove initiatives to transform how Women’s and Children’s Health Services are delivered in that community. She also served on the board of the Washington State Hospital Association.
Buffy’s conviction about healthcare became personal during five weeks of hospital bedrest and another five watching her premature twins fight for their lives in the NICU. The system that saved her children showed her both its brilliance and its brokenness, and taught her that you cannot fund your way to better outcomes, you have to build them. That conviction shapes how she invests. Healthcare is too complex for passive capital, and the best founders rarely fail for lack of ideas. They fail because no one is building alongside them. LOUD Ventures exists to fix that.
When she is not immersed in healthcare, Buffy is outdoors in the Pacific Northwest with her dogs, on the slopes, on the water, or on a sideline cheering on one of her daughters. Born and raised in Oregon, she lives in Washington State with her husband and three daughters, who are the reason she keeps building outside the lines.
