Christine Gillespie is a Corporate Director & Former Executive with 25 years of experience in global natural resources, including mining, chemicals, agribusiness and industrial retail. Ms. Gillespie serves on the Board of Aquatera Utilities and has served on the boards of Neptune Bulk Terminals, Calgary Economic Development and Highbanks Society. She has also served on several subsidiary and joint-venture boards in both fertilizer and ocean shipping in Europe and Africa. She is past chair of the Transportation Committees of both Fertilizer Canada and The Fertilizer Institute.
Her 25-year career with the world’s largest integrated agricultural solutions and fertilizer company Nutrien Ltd. and predecessor Agrium Inc. culminated in executive roles including VP, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics; Managing Director, Europe; and Managing Director, International Strategy, China, India & Africa. Her diverse and international professional background includes North American and International P&L operations; business transformation; international corporate development & strategy in Asia, Africa, and Europe; supply chain and investor relations. She is a multi-faceted leader who spearheads critical initiatives including turnarounds, M&A, integration, product adoption and delivers operational improvements streamlining process, reducing costs, and building teams that outperform in terms of performance, safety, and employee engagement.
Ms. Gillespie is known for taking on diverse organizational challenges, often as the first woman to do so, quickly synthesizing the drivers for success and leveraging her strong business and financial acumen for immediate impact. She led her U.S. ag retail division to win the Industry-Wide Regional Environmental Respect Award. She cofounded Nutrien’s industry-leading Women’s Inclusion Network, and has led initiatives to increase female representation in the industry. She is a sought-after speaker on women in non-traditional roles, addressing companies including Syngenta, Agco & Volvo Construction Equipment. She has completed director education programs in Canada (ICD.D), the U.S. and Europe.
Ms. Gillespie is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) from Harvard Business School and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm.) with Distinction, both from the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business, and a member of the Beta Gama Sigma Honor Society, and the recipient of several academic awards. She is fluent in English & French.
