As a senior executive with over forty years of experience in start-up, growth and turn-around businesses in a variety of industries Andrew is focused on assisting Board’s and senior management teams develop and implement their operating and strategic plans. Andrew recently retired from ArborGen, where he led the transformation of the company from a biotechnology based organization losing $16 million in 2012 into the world’s leading provider of seedlings to the global forestry industry earning $10 million in 2022.

Prior to ArborGen, Andrew was CEO of Calgary based SemBioSys, where he led the development of this plant-made pharmaceuticals from a university start-up to a TSX publicly traded company. While there he founded Botaneco ingredients, an integrated personal care ingredients company based on SemBioSys technology.

Mr. Baum began his career at the first employee of Calgene, the pioneering plant biotechnology company in 1981 where he worked in every unit of the business in roles of increasing responsibility until it was acquired by Monsanto in 1997.

During his career Andrew has served as the Vice Chair of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), Chair of the Food and Ag Section of BIO, the Chair of BioAlberta and as Board Member of BioCanada.

Mr. Baum has an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California Berkeley.
