Bob Mighell is the Founder & CEO of Chondros Bio, a regenerative medicine startup commercializing breakthrough cartilage repair technology spun out of the University of British Columbia. Chondros Bio is developing OsteoChon™, an off-the-shelf protein-based hydrogel implant designed to regenerate both hyaline cartilage and subchondral bone for osteochondral defects of the knee and other joints. The company’s underlying biomaterials technology has demonstrated promising preclinical results and is based on research published in Nature.
Formerly, Bob served as Entrepreneur in Residence at the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business. Previously, Bob led the Tilting Motor Works team for Arcimoto and headed development of the tilting three-wheeled pedal-assist electric bike project. He is a serial entrepreneur with more than 35 years of business experience.
In 2008, Bob founded Tilting Motor Works to commercialize three issued patents related to tilting three-wheeled vehicles. After raising over $3 million and establishing an international sales network, Tilting Motor Works was acquired by Arcimoto, a publicly traded company. In 1994, Bob founded World Medical Equipment and operated the company for 20 years, specializing in outfitting surgical suites with high-end capital equipment. World Medical Equipment was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of Washington State’s Fastest Growing Private Companies for 8 of those 20 years.
Bob’s first company, Edge Snowboards, was founded in 1985 during the early years of the snowboard industry. He also holds multiple world land speed records for three-wheeled motorcycles and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs through his involvement with university entrepreneurship programs.
