Dr. Naweed Syed is a professor with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. He also served for 10 years as the Department Head, Anatomy and Cell Biology, and Research Director HBI at the CSM. His research is focused at cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying brain development and plasticity. Dr. Syed has been the recipient of many international and national awards including: Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship (USA), Parker B. Francis Fellowship (USA), and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Scholarships and Scientist Awards. Dr. Syed has published 129 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals, serves on several grant panels, and is a member of scientific advisory boards.
