Ian Sanders

Head of Portfolio Development, Munich RE

Ian works for Munich Re’s venture capital arm located in San Francisco. Munich Re Ventures (MRV) invests across stages in strategically relevant areas including InsurTech&FinTech, IoT, AI, Cyber, Digital Health, Mobility, Life&Health. Ian’s role is to build out the overall Portfolio Development Platform (PD) and serve as the PD Lead for the Munich Re Fund.

Portfolio Development is tasked with maximizing the strategic value of the MRV platform including: developing Strategic Investment Themes, structuring and negotiating partnerships, and overseeing effective execution with startups. In addition, PD supports MRV portfolio companies as they navigate the insurance industry by providing connections, strategic support, and partnership support.

Ian graduated summa cum laude from Drake University and received a Bachelor of Science of Business Administration in Quantitative Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science.
