Mike has been a founder or early stage principle investor and Director of companies in the energy, software, medical device and property development sectors. Most recently, Mike served as Chairman of Solium Capital Inc. the global leading provider of software for corporate equity plan administration. Solium was sold in 2019 to Morgan Stanley. Other current initiatives include: JEMM, a Calgary based urban property developer; SmartBe, a wealth management firm focused on quant-based investing, via an ETF on the TSX; Katipult, which is enabling private equity firms to include retail investors as sources of capital; Rival Technologies, which is re-shaping how marketing research can be conducted through technology; and Leankor, which is transforming project management for the Fortune 500 sector with enterprise grade software. Mike was a founder or early-stage investor and a Board member in several companies including Cority (occupational health & safety SAAS software, sold in 2019); Southern Lights of NZ (bio-medical materials processor, sold in 2015); Curve Dental (cloud-based dental software, sold in 2018); InnerVision Medical Technologies (imaging science sold in 2016); and Peyto (Calgary based oil and gas producer, founded in 1998). In addition, Mike spent 15 years in the deregulated merchant energy business, rising up the industry ranks to become the CEO of Engage Energy, which was subsequently sold to Duke Energy in 2002.
