William Chen is the Michael Fam Endowed Professor and Director of the Food Science and Technology Programme at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (NTU). He is concurrently Director of the Singapore Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) and Director of the Singapore Agri-food Innovation Lab (SAIL). He leads FRESH team effort in developing NAMs methodologies for the next generation food safety risk assessment. He has successfully secured significant amount of funding support (tens of millions in USD) from government agencies and food industry.
Professor Chen’s food tech innovations, and his perspectives on food safety and food security have been regularly covered by major local and international media outlets. His team’s innovations IPs have been licensed to food industry and converted into consumer products. He is and adviser and consultant to overseas universities, Singapore government agencies (Singapore Food Agency, National Environment Agency, and Enterprise Singapore), food industry and various international organisations. These global institutions include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Professor Chen holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in science, both from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
